TV chef Brian "turnip" Turner was on good form last night at the National Restaurateurs' Dinner in London. Turner made Kitchen Rat and the audience giggle during his opening address. Having mounted the stage, he walked up to the mike he announced in his dulcit Yorkshire accent: "This mike has been set for a midget." As he spoke, he turned to face the seated audience and continued with a twinkle in his eye. "Don't worry, you won't have to give a speech Antony." Unfortunately, no one could see whether Wozza was there!
Ambitous Ma Potters wants a celebrity chairman
Kitchen Rat was chatting with Ma Potters restaurants boss John Gater last night at the National Restaurateurs Dinner in the Dorchester and its clear the man has plenty of ambition to grow his business. Gater is considering bringing in a high-profile chairman to boost the 16-strong chain's image in the market and create the sort of buzz the smaller Giraffe has been getting from its association with ex-Signature boss, and current Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson. A healthy amount of shares in the company are likely to be included as a sweetener.... so it could be a cushty little number indeed.
