http://www.caterersearch.com/Articles/2005/05/12/300551/michael-caines.htmIt's good news to see so many hospitality industry workers in the latest honours list. The Queen covered the full breadth of the hospitality industry in her annual birthday gongs with knighthoods going to serial entrepreneur and "Easyeverything" Stelios and "loadsamoney" David Michels, the outgoing and very rich ex-boss of Hilton UK, and a well-deserved MBE to 98-year-old fish-and-chip shop owner Constance Brown. Also recognised was Michael Caines, who picked up an MBE for his services to cooking.

In a press release, Michael commented: "It is a great honour to be awarded this, I feel very humbled and it is lovely to be recognised for my contribution to the industry."

We think Michael is great too, but could this man ever be humble (or as his press people put it humbled! The dictionary defines humble as "having a low opinion of oneself, modest and lowly).

Really? This is the man who refers to himself in the third person as Michael Caines, which is just bizarre, and claims to be the only Michelin-starred chef not to "devalue the sandwich". A small ego then ...perhaps a big serving of humble pie would be best.
