The boozer bought by Jamie Oliver his new show "Jamie's Chef" - The Cock in Essex - is widely believed to be a far more hospitable venue than before.
Former carpet-fitter Aaron Craze, who won the show, has been praised for transforming the pub "from grotty drinking denizen to stylish gastropub has been remarkable".
Unfortunately, some of the old regulars take a different view.
Speaking to porno newspaper the Daily Sport (yes it is still going), Andy Came, said: "It was our local pub, and it's not a pub anymore - it's a restaurant. It's now gone to us. You can't just go in and have a pint.
"They depicted it as dump before they changed it all around, but it wasn't.It served the local community. Now they're aiming at people with money and trying to pull in custom from London."
Another cheesed off former regular Michael Ford added: "Aaron certainly has turned the pub around.
"He has turned it from a delightful country pub into a vulgar gastro-pub selling over-priced, poncey food."
Having seen the pub before the refurb - cocks and all - KR thinks this is a bit rich....

I've never been to the Cock, but the locals you quoted have a point. Too many country pubs have been effectively turned into restaurants, where almost the only seating is at ready-laid dining tables, the range of ales and ciders has become generic, and the back of the bar is a veritable wall of bin numbers. And where every menu option is "pan-fried this', or "wok-sizzled that" or "a blanquette of the other served with a jus of something-or-other".
The gastropub is a generic modern execration.
When the food becomes the reputation of a pub - beyond the drink, beyond the rendezvous and conversation - then the pub's died as far as I'm concerned.
Surely it's possible to bring the good old-fashioned boozer into the 21st century without losing the Englishness Orwell would have recognised?

Thanks for your comments Andrew. I don't mind a bit of guinea fowl and foccacia with my pint, but am quite happy supping Directors in the local (food offer: crisps and the occasional sweaty cheese roll).
What does everyone else think?
