Iron men

Kitchen Rat was interested to see that the "Iron chancellor" Gordon Brown elected to kick off his challenge for the Labour Party leadership at the Imagination Gallery in London with the catchphrase "new ideas and vision". Nice.

Whether Gordon will successfully cater to the party faithful's needs only time will tell but the choice of venue was neat as the feeding duties are handled by contract caterer Vacherin whose director of business development Phil Roker is competing in this year's Frankfurt Iron Man on 1 July.

Roker, who is racing for Hospitality Action and skin disease charity Debra, has an incredible challenge ahead of him (much like David Cameron).

He's hoping for a time under eleven hours! and will be putting his body beyond the pain barrier with a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and marathon all straight after each other.

It remains to be seen if Mr Brown will continue to be good for UK business and if Roker will be in any fit state to win more for Vacherin after his ordeal, but take comfort in the fact that one of the chancellor's cornerstone policies in his bid for election is to improve access to the NHS. So if Roker can make it back from Germany they should be able to rebuild him.
