Olympic glory?

Yes with the euphoria of the London Olympic bid success well and truly behind us and cost projections for the project spiralling to an eye-watering £9b, it seems the Great British public have returned to type and are busily moaning about the 2012 Games.

In a wonderful whirl of empty marketing speak and pomp, the organisers of the London Games revealed the "new brand and vision" for the project today, essentially an odd looking logo.

Still, if the London tabloids are anything to go by, this has drawn a level of public criticism not seen since the Millennium Dome from the great unwashed, with one enterprising type even going as far as to launch an online petition to get it changed.

Still, you have to feel for 2012 chairman Lord Sebastian Coe, who Caterer gave a Special Catey to for his Olympic efforts, now forced to deliver lines about the logo such as:

"It will define the venues we build and the Games we hold and act as a reminder of our promise to use the Olympic spirit to inspire everyone and reach out to young people around the world."

Blimey, and you thought it was just a shaky doodle - in pink, blue, green or orange - that had cost £400,000 for some overpaid consultants to come up with.

So is the logo a "dynamic, innovative and inspirational" design that will carry us onwards to a successful Games as Visit London things, or a load of crap? Please let Kitchen Rat know your thoughts by posting a comment.

Mr Aardvark

This looks like a monkey heeding the call of nature in the woods and hitting a power line. Otherwise, very good.

Is it just me or do you think that with the stylised '0' it more resembles a naff 80's advertisement for a new and funky Australia?
