Vacherin not hunting for talent in Africa just yet

Being one of Caterer's Adopted Businesses is an honour not bestowed lightly.

It's better to be talked about than not at all, after all and there's a lot of associated credit to go with a regular feature in the hospitality magazine.

Although Caterer's reach is well established with a number of ex-pats. on the subscription list, one tale from current Adopted Business Vacherin still managed to surprise.

With all publicity being good publicity, it appears Caterer's coverage of City caterer Vacherin has permeated the world wide web and has been picked up as far away as Africa.

Vacherin managing director Mark Philpott had a couple of calls recently from a very eager gentleman based on the aforementioned continent who simply introduced himself as calling "about the job".

Although Vacherin as a growing concern is constantly on the lookout for talent to bring into its business, "the job" is not something you'll find listed on its website and Philpott was initially thrown.

Still, it seems the suitor was very friendly and keen, and more than willing to come for an interview from Africa at Philpott's leisure, with the caveat, only fair you'd have to say, that Vacherin forked out for the flights. Well, maybe not.

Although this initial proposition proved easy to refuse - and was - the unnamed gentleman had another crack at it and called again, this time asking if Philpott could call him back to discuss a role at the City caterer. You'd think he could at least of faxed his CV.

Vacherin's managing director, a gentleman himself to the last, let the fella down gently as skills crisis or no skills crisis, the caterer's recruitment budget hasn't yet reached the heady heights of bank-rolling inter-continental head-hunting.
