Is is a wonder that pubs are having a hard time. The smoking ban means that traditional drinking customers are supermarket shopping for alcoholic drinks that they can comfortably drink at home. The economic downturn means reduced customers and those who serve food are competing for business with restaurants who are also being affected. On top of this the Government wants to slap a ban on happy hours, which can help with their footfalls. All because we the public cant' be trusted to make deceisions about our own bodies. As a smoker and a drinker, who enjoys eating, I have paid thousands in tax, far more than the averagely healthy clean living person. This will not only pay for any lifestyle related illnesses I might lumber the NHS with but also I probably live as long which means you wont have to fund my old age. I am aware of the risks involved and I choose my lifestyle because I like it. What next alcohol free pubs!
